The 2006 USA Table Tennis Championship rating list is out. What is my rating – something I was curious for some time. Before I even found it out on the usatt.org website, I had a chance to look at the list that the friends at the Salt Lake Table Tennis club printed out. My ranking is 1387. A rating of 1387, low or high? I would say that is a good rating for the kind of defensive game I played at the Las Vegas US Table Tennis championship.
Everyone thinks they need high rating, but that was not my priority when I played at Las Vegas. I needed an entry, and I wanted to start from that to progress. The next step that I can take is increase my points by atleast 200 points. To get those points, I should be playing against players rated 1600 and beating them. The USA Table Tennis Open at Las Vegas would be the next tournament I would go this year. Then in December, I will surely go to the Championship in the same place.
The USA Table Tennis rating system is pretty good. If you are serious about Table Tennis, get a rating. The first step is to become a member of USA Table Tennis Organization. You can find the online form at http://www.usatt.org/major/membership.shtml. The annual fee is $40. You can participate in any USATT approved tournament in your state to raise or lower your rating. Whenever you beat a person who is rated higher than you, you will gain points. For example, if I beat a person rated 1600, I will get 50 points. When you lose to a lower rated player, you will lose points.
