When you don’t get what you wish

I scream a loud when James Blunt’ video comes to the screen. I started watching it last year on VH1. I liked his song, voice and the choreography the day I watched it. He has this special voice, and I liked his way of describing the life – he is a crooner.

James had early age musical lessons, though he was not a musician by profession. He was soldier to Kosovo, came back to England in 2002 when he started playing in clubs. Elton John raised his career after finding the talents in him.

His song ‘You’re beautiful’ is an awesome song. James is passionate about life; he tells what life misses on its journey, and coping with such losses.

He said this, and I liked it a lot:

I saw humanity at its worst and most destructive, and at the same time individuals on all sides showed incredible courage through strife.

James Blunt – You’re Beautiful Lyrics

My life is brilliant.
My love is pure.
I saw an angel.
Of that I’m sure.
She smiled at me on the subway.
She was with another man.
But I won’t lose no sleep on that,
‘Cause I’ve got a plan.

You’re beautiful. You’re beautiful.
You’re beautiful, it’s true.
I saw you face in a crowded place,
And I don’t know what to do,
‘Cause I’ll never be with you.

Yeah, she caught my eye,
As we walked on by.
She could see from my face that I was,
flying high,
And I don’t think that I’ll see her again,
But we shared a moment that will last till the end.

You’re beautiful. You’re beautiful.
You’re beautiful, it’s true.
I saw you face in a crowded place,
And I don’t know what to do,
‘Cause I’ll never be with you.
You’re beautiful. You’re beautiful.
You’re beautiful, it’s true.
There must be an angel with a smile on her face,
When she thought up that I should be with you.
But it’s time to face the truth,
I will never be with you.

Can you mend her broken heart?

The war pictures bring shiver down your spine – it brings sorrows, angers and all kinds of human emotions to you.

This is the horrible war picture I ever saw. The mother in the picture is carrying the boots of her two sons who were killed in yesterday’s Iraq Civil war with her face rained in blood – I felt like hugging this mother. I don’t know whom should we blame for the blood on her face, but I know what kind of heart ache she will go through.

I say a prayer for you mother.

My New Shoe

Tuesday, February 21st, 2006

I’m a great shoe fan – however I’m not crazy about buying hundreds of them. The first time I wore a New Balance shoe was way back in my college days. My brother, who worked in Mumbai, came home in Kerala for a vacation, left his NB shoe behind. That shoe was superb, with good white leather, and I used it. One other reason why I like NB shoes is because it supports wide feet like mine.

In 2002, I bought the same NB shoe from a shop in the US. I was glad as I could get the same kind of leather, and the beautiful shoe saved my feet until I washed it to clean some dirt off. Afterwards the shoe became so stinky, I had to get a new asics shoe. The asics shoe has mesh in the front, so have good ventilation, which is something I experienced for the first time – your feet will get good air through the ventilation.

Then yesterday, I made a trip to the same NB shop. The NB has this new off road shoe I liked a lot. This one is comfortable, and fits the feet well. I’m sure it will help my tennis play.

Listening to Music at work

Friday, February 17th, 2006

I started my career in India. It was unusual to listening to music and work at the same time wherever I worked. I noticed a change when I landed myself in Malaysia. We had a good stereo player in the office – everyday we listened to our favorite station Soft & Easy. When the entire marketing professional gets together at the end of the day, normally after 6:00 PM, we played some variety music like soft rock. I haven’t seen anyone changing the channel to Malay which is the local language channel.

The American cooperate culture is little different than what I saw in India or Malaysia. It was very difficult for me to accept the culture in the first few weeks, as I felt I’m reserved towards work rather than relax and work. The different software companies I worked for, I had colleagues who listen to the music or their favorite radio station at work. I’m a huge music listener – still it was difficult for me to practice it. Blame it on my mother, who was a teacher, never allowed to listen to music and study at the same time. My brother regularly received scolding for the mischief he did. He had his stereo on most of the time.

My opinion on listening to music at work is positive. It can improve the productivity especially for the programmers.

These are some tips to consider:

1. Look at your company policy, whether or not listening to music is permitted. Companies don’t like to waste the Internet bandwidth for its employees to listen to music unless they are big.

2. Get a head phone. Don’t blast music in a speaker at work.

3. Keep the volume to low, so that you can listen to your phone ringing – or listen to somebody who’s calling you from the other cube.

4. Keep your favorite list of songs on your computer hard disk, or player and never share. This will put the company you work for copyright violations.

The heat is still on

Brillstein-Grey Entertainment literary manager Kassie Evashevski dropped James Frey as her client. There was a large media outbreak especially by CNN anchorman Anderson Cooper, to look into the allegations, and to force the readers not to buy any books of James Frey in the future.

I would say it is okay to buy James Frey’s book if he categorizes his book, correctly to say it is a fiction. Any writer will add a little bit of exaggeration, but too much exaggeration is not good.

The fact is that media can move mountains, especially if you are a writer, and not willing to talk to journalists about your experience honestly.
