Hey Varghese - Sorry about your experience. I've heard from some people that in some areas, the local leadership organizes their ward to meet over at the church for candy exchange. I'm not sure of the exact reasoning behind this, but I've heard that it could be for safety. Kids running around outside after dark can be dangerous even if they're supervised. There isn't a church-wide rule. In fact, Halloweeen isn't even acknowledged by the church at all. It's just a stupid American tradition.

Local leaders are given alot of discretion in how they organize/advertise their parties. The problem I have with having the party at the church (especially without advertising it and inviting everybody) is that it does just what you say it alienates non-members. They really should have put out fliers to everybody so the whole community knows it's available as an option to go there to share your candy. It's also a shame that you haven't been informed or invited to non-LDS events or had better contact with your neighbors. Not all neighborhoods in Utah are the same as yours. Some have better relationships, some worse.

I didn't understand what you were trying to say with your last paragraph with all the activities to attend and time spent doing activities, but nothing to get back. What do you mean by that? I don't get it.

I'm sure if you take the candy to the club, all the kids that go there will be happy to get sick eating it :)

Gordon, thank you for the comments. In the last paragraph I was talking about the instances when the Mormon friends in my neighborhood have come to my home - either for collecting money or to make us Mormons.
